What is Matcha?
Matcha is a powder made from green tea leaves that are traditionally consumed in East Asia. Consuming matcha was popularised over 900 years ago.
The green tea plants used for matcha are grown for three to four weeks before harvest, and the stems and veins are removed during this process.
Matcha has a complex flavour profile with mellow grassy notes, natural sweetness, a touch of bitterness and an overall pleasant savoury flavouring. This taste is known as ‘umami’ which is what makes matcha so tasty.
